From life at VŠE, in other words, more than half of the semester has passed!

Another month of our study lives has passed, so let’s look together at some of the interesting events that took place at the Prague University of Economics and Business.

The Travellers’ Club at VŠE organized two very captivating lectures. The first one, held on October 23, was titled: “Brazil is not just samba and carnival: Journey through southern Brazil.” The second one could be attended last week, with the theme being “Wandering through the Caucasus” (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan). Over the last four weeks, the Investors’ Club, another student association at VŠE, organized several events. One of them was an English-language lecture on the topic: “The Impact Investing Playbook” with Andrew Gray (Tilia Impact Ventures). In addition, three more lectures were held, enriching the audience with many interesting insights. The main topics of these events included Penta’s development projects, the transformation of the publicly traded company Groupon, and a lecture on the new fund from J&T Bank. This lecture was titled: “Is there anything to invest in in the Czech Republic today?” (@ki_praha)

Followers of the Prague Banking Club of VŠE surely noticed that on October 25, a sharing session took place in collaboration with the Private Equity fund Orients. Gabriel Szuma and Jakub Čížek jointly presented portfolio companies, including the manufacturer of modular constructions Moravia Containers, the Flosman retail chain, and the CEAH holding, specializing in industrial automation. Also, the ECONSE student association organized a very interesting debate on the inflation situation in the Czech Republic. The discussion covered the current state of the Czech economy and the steps taken by the Czech National Bank as well. This debate was titled: “At the eleventh hour or in other words is the Czech economy on the brink of collapse?” with Ing. Pavel Potužák, Ph.D. from the VŠE Department of Economics as the main guest. Student Club of Business and Competitiveness organized two events this month. The first one was a lecture titled: “48 Hours from Idea to a Startup that Changed the Czech Book Market.”  The main guest was Tadeáš Kula, the founder of the company Reknihy. Additionally, a unique workshop on the topic: “Web3Recruitment: The art of Branding and Interview Success” aimed to introduce the world of Crypto, Blockchain, Defi, and more. Chess enthusiasts also had their share during the innovation week. On November 7, 2023, the first official chess tournament organized by the Chess Club VŠE took place. For more information, visit (@clubchess.club)

Another interesting event was a lecture on a very current topic: “Israeli-Palestinian conflict, geopolitics, and threats arising from a possible escalation of the conflict,” organized by the Young Political Scientists Club. The main guests included Dr. Irena Kalhousová and Col. Mgr. Ivo Zelinka. (More information at @kmp.vse)

Lastly, the Academic Club at VŠE hosted a unique Pub Quiz organized by the 4FIS club, where participants could compete for many interesting prizes. For more information about this student association, follow their official Instagram (@4fisclub). They organize many entertaining events every month.

In addition to the above-mentioned events, the Junior Diplomat Initiative also organized a very engaging seminar. Its main guest was Věra Jeřábková, former director of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. (@juniordiplomatinitiative)
