2024 Annual Congress of the IIPF in Prague

During 21-23 August 2024, one of the largest congresses for experts and academics in the field of public finance took place at the Prague University of Economics and Business. This three-day event was organised by the VŠE Event Centre in cooperation with the International Institute of Public Finance and the number of participants exceeded the 500 people mark.

The 80th annual congress kicked off with an opening ceremony in the Vencovskeho Auditorium. The first keynote speaker of the event was Annette Alstadsæter (Norwegian University of Life Sciences), who gave a lecture on “Navigating the Hidden Currents: the Evolution and Measurement of Offshore Wealth in the Age of Data Leaks”. The second keynote speaker was Juan Carlos Suárez Serrato (Stanford Graduate School of Business), whose talk was entitled: “Recent Advances in International Tax Research”. Parallel sessions were also held throughout the day, where participants learned a lot of interesting information and could exchange their know-how during networking discussions. At the end of the day, a welcome reception was held at the Czech National Bank.

On the second day, the participants had a mentoring session, which preceded the lecture of another of the main speakers of the congress – Massimo Morelli (Bocconi University). “Populism and Its Consequences for Economic Policy”. Afterwards, parallel sessions were held again. The second day of the congress ended with various excursions to Prague and Pilsen.

The last day was full of parallel meetings, which took place in the Rajská Building at VŠE. The last keynote speaker was Lisa De Simone with her topic “Multinational Corporate Income Shifting”. At the end of the event, the attendees could look forward to the closing ceremony and gala dinner at the Cubex Conference Center.

We are glad that the organizers of IIPF 2024 chose the VŠE Event Centre as the organizer of this year’s event, which after 21 years was again held in the Czech Republic. We believe that participants from all over the world really enjoyed the event and we look forward to the other events that are still to come this year.
