From Life at VŠE – The Summer Semester Is Coming to an End

The summer semester of 2024/2025 is in full swing, so let’s take a look back at the events that took place at the Prague University of Economics and Business. In a new episode of the series “From Life at VŠE”, we once again explore events organized by student clubs.

The student association Junior Diplomat Initiative hosted a seminar titled “The Voice of Czech Foreign Policy” with Daniel Drake, the spokesperson for the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He explained the role of a spokesperson in diplomacy and in communicating key foreign policy decisions. The discussion focused on the challenges of public diplomacy and working with the media. The clubs Young Managers Club, CEMS Club Prague, Oikos Prague, Dressibly, and Studujeme FPH jointly organized a popular clothing and book SWAP, where students could exchange clothes and textbooks while supporting a good cause.

The Investors Club offered a rich lineup of events, from an Investment Pub Quiz to various lectures such as “Global Megatrends: Threats and Opportunities for the Czech Economy,” “The Luxury Real Estate Market in Prague,” and “Behind the Deals: What Does Work in Private Equity Look Like?” Other highlights included a lecture on careers in M&A, a session on Pale Fire Capital, and a workshop simulating consulting work in M&A. The semester also featured the final round of Investomania and a major investment conference focused on the real estate market, stocks, and rental housing in the Czech Republic. SpoluPRACUJEME organized two noteworthy events. The first was a lecture on how Seznam.cz develops and implements the largest Czech LLM (Large Language Model), walking attendees through the entire development process. The second was an inspiring talk titled “The Czech Path to Space” by Adéla Boraňová (ESA BIC), explaining how space tech business works and how it’s used in daily life. Students for VŠE hosted popular creator Jiří Burýšek, who in the session “Jirka Explains Things” shared what led him to start a YouTube channel, how he chooses topics, and where he finds information. More info on Facebook (Studenti pro VŠE) and Instagram (studentiprovse).

The Young Political Scientists Club held a Political Pub Quiz, giving participants a chance to test their political science knowledge in a fun setting. Upcoming events are posted on their Facebook (Klub mladých politologů) and Instagram (kmp.vse).

VŠE Falcons focused on modern tech and economics in the lecture “Virtual ER and AI Laboratory in the Modern Economy and Healthcare.” Also, congratulations to VŠE Falcons for reaching the semifinals of the University Hockey League. SKOK hosted a conference titled “Not So Serious About Serious Topics,” which featured several inspiring lectures and networking activities. Event updates are available on Instagram (skokvse) and Facebook (SKOK).

The Accounting Friends Club held the 9th annual KPU Conference under the theme “Settling the Score: Czechia vs. Europe,” including a talk on “(Un)affordable Housing – How to Solve the Problem, Not Just for Young People.” The conference featured an engaging panel discussion with guests from both industry and academia. Chess enthusiasts could attend a semester chess tournament organized by the Chess Club VŠE, filled with exciting matches, clever traps, and a friendly atmosphere. For future tournaments, follow their Instagram (clubchess.club).

The FinBank Club organized a lecture titled “Auditing in Practice: Joys and Challenges,” which offered insight into the auditing profession, including required skills and real-life aspects of the job. It helped them gain a better understanding of this career path and supported them in making decisions about their own professional future. Check their Instagram (finbank_vse) for upcoming events.

Besides the SWAP, Studujeme FPH also hosted a film night featuring the documentary “The True Cost”, commemorating the tragic collapse of the Rana Plaza factory, which killed over 1,100 workers. AEGEE Prague held an info session on its Summer University project, which has been running for over 30 years, offering interesting summer programs across cities where AEGEE operates. Sessions last from one to four weeks. Learn more on their website (AEGEE-Praha) and Instagram (aegee_praha).

4FIS organized several events, starting with a hackathon on “Economic Modeling of Real Estate Prices in Practice”, where participants worked with a real dataset. They also hosted an Academic Pub Quiz, a Geoguesser team tournament, and a workshop titled “Create Your Own AI Agent.” Follow them on Instagram (4fisclub) for more.

Oikos Prague presented a lecture called “Small Changes, Big Impact,” which gave a critical look at slow vs. fast fashion and their effects. More on Facebook (oikos Praha) and Instagram (oikosprague).

Young Managers Club hosted a lecture “The Double Life of a Realtor and YouTuber”. Alongside the Investors Club and Prague Banking Club, they co-hosted a panel discussion: “To Save or Not to Save? Why Young People Can’t Ignore Investing.” Together with Studujeme FPH, they also organized a stress management workshop. The VŠE Travelers Club continued to inspire with travel lectures such as “From Ecuador to Antarctica” and “Australia Without Limits,” guiding participants across continents through the eyes of seasoned explorers. For more, check their Facebook (Klub cestovatelů VŠE).
